The first flight of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress took place on July 28, 1935, and for the next more than 30 years, this heavy bomber was a star in the fleet of the U.S. Army Air Corps. The Retro USA B17 Round Metal Sign is a salute to this powerful aircraft and features a design inspired by the pinup girl artwork that was popular during the 1940s and 50s. On the sign, the B-17 can be seen streaking mightily across the sky. Behind the plane, a sexy blond clad in red hot pats and a cropped blue top poses in front of the fluffy white clouds. The name of the plane and the words "Made in the USA" are printed on the sign in red and blue.
Just like the B-17, the Retro USA B17 Round Metal Sign is made here in America. The sign has a heavy-gauge American-made steel base to which pigments were applied to produce the image. The 28-inch metal sign is then baked to seal the image in place. Weighing 7 pounds, the sign is drilled and riveted.
