Around the turn of the 20th century, Goodwin's of Manchester was one of the leading soap manufacturers in England and was well known for their advertising images, which featured a fresh-faced little girl with ringlet curls. This lovable tot was nicknamed "The Ivy Soap Girl" and appeared in print and on Metal Signs. The Retro Ivy Soap Metal Sign is a replica of one of these metal advertising signs and shows the Ivy Soap Girl taking a bath in an old-fashioned claw-foot tub. A puppy dog is seen scampering away from the scene, and the words "Ivy Soap It Floats" are written on the sign as well as the manufacturer's name.
Fashioned out of the highest grade, heavy-gauge 24 gauge US steel, the Retro Ivy Soap Metal Sign is made from start to finish in the United States. The detailed image is sublimated into the powder coating of the metal, making it far more durable than a painted sign. Measuring 12 inches in width by 18 inches in height, the sign weighs 2 pounds.
